Nuova Castelli was founded in 1892 and is based in Reggio Emilia. Its trademark stands for experience and history. Today, with a turnover of more than 500 million euros, it is the leading maker and distributor of Italy’s famous DOP cheeses. In 2014 it was acquired by Charterhouse Capital Partners, a move which has allowed the company to grow still further.
That year, the Castelli Group acquired Alival and North Coast. Alival was established in 1982 and is located at Ponte Buggianese in the Province of Pistoia. It is one of the leading makers of stretched-curd cheeses. North Coast, which opened in 1992, is located in Prusków near Warsaw and specialises in the distribution of high quality foods. The Nuova Castelli head office controls a vast network of subsidiaries in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia and Russia. The group has cheese manufacturing, maturing and packaging plants in Italy, Hungary – for hard cheese – and Poland.
The group employs more than 1000 people in approximately twenty plants located in Italy and abroad.
The Nuova Castelli range of cheese products are unique and represent the highest quality in the Italian cheese-dairy industry.
The company’s outstanding products are: Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Grana Padano DOP, Gorgonzola DOP, Taleggio DOP, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, Pecorino Toscano DOP and Mozzarella STG
Nuova Castelli’s ongoing quest for excellence has been strengthened and certified by the DOP mark, making it one of the most reliable producers in terms of quality.
The company’s philosophy is to aim for ever higher standards of quality and to offer the best products in the industry. As such, Nuova Castelli can guarantee a wide range of DOP cheeses that have deep roots in the areas where their wholesome raw materials are processed into fine cheeses.
Over the years, Nuova Castelli has entered into important agreements with local dairies to promote and enhance the links. Consequently, all the milk for DOP cheeses comes from breeders and dairy farmers in the area in which they are produced as stipulated by the regulatory standards. It was precisely to offer the best on the market that, in accordance with the Italian Legislative Decree 152/97, Nuova Castelli implemented its Quality Management System. From that moment on, each plant and its respective management has been meeting the most stringent industry standards through rigorous daily monitoring and external audits.
Nuova Castelli products are sold both under its own brand and its clients’ private labels which is evidence of the strong reputation for reliability that the group has attained among major distribution chains in Italy and abroad. Nuova Castelli has always devoted special attention to the foreign markets.
